As we celebrate Independence Day, let us not forget the document that was birthed from the travail of liberty. The Declaration of Independence settled and stated the American ideal that all of mankind is equal in the sight of their Creator, and though our nation would struggle to make the ideal a reality, equality has been the goal from the very founding of America.
